Hurricane Katrina's Impact on Our Parish

Thank you for visiting the St. John’s Episcopal Church website.  Although our church and associated buildings suffered some minor structural and roof damage from Hurricane Katrina, we are fully operational and have continued our regular worship schedule.

Fortunately, no one in our congregation died as a result of the storm.  However, approximately 35% of our members suffered substantial or total loss of their homes and/or cars.  An additional 25% incurred minor damage.  We would like to thank the hundreds of people who have volunteered to help clean up from Hurricane Katrina, or have provided financial assistance and prayers.  They have literally been a God-send.

We have established a Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund which is being administered by the Church Outreach Committee.  Contributions to this fund will be used to assist with living expenses for those who lost their homes and for clean-up and recovery.  The funds are available for both members of St. John’s and also for people in our community as well. Due to the significant damage experienced by the Gulf Coast, rebuilding will be long-term. Contributions are gratefully accepted.  Please make the check payable to St. John’s Episcopal Church-Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund and send to 705 Rayburn Ave, Ocean Springs, MS 39564.

May the Lord bless you and keep you, may He make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you.  May the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace.
